Few foods have travelled through time, cultures and menus quite like the humble dumpling.
Across Asia and beyond, dumplings have been enjoyed for centuries in countless forms such as steamed, boiled, pan-fried, filled with meat, seafood or vegetables. Different cultures have created their own versions, but the basic idea remains brilliantly simple: delicious filling wrapped in dough.
So why have dumplings remained so popular? Part of the answer is their ability to keep evolving.
Small food, big possibilities
Dumplings don’t really belong to just one part of the menu.
Steam them and they sit naturally within a traditional Asian offering. Pan-fry them and they become a crispy snack or bar bite. Serve several flavours together and you have a sharing plate. Add them to broth, noodles or a bowl and they can form part of a more substantial meal.
For foodservice operators, that flexibility creates an opportunity to get more from a single product.
Rather than treating dumplings as one fixed dish, think of them as a menu building block. Change the cooking method, sauce, garnish or accompaniment and the same dumpling can feel completely different.
Six flavours, plenty of places to start
The Hakka Dumpling range includes 6 flavours designed to give operators variety across different menu occasions.
Favourites such as Pork & Chives and Vegetarian can sit comfortably on a traditional dumpling plate, while Pork & Cabbage, Pork & Prawns and Prawn provide even more options for sharing, snacking and meal applications.
And now there is a new flavour joining the range.
NEW Hakka Mushroom Dumplings feature a trio mushroom blend of shiitake, oyster mushroom and black fungus, delivering a rich, savoury umami flavour.
The distinctive charcoal pastry also adds visual interest, making Mushroom Dumplings particularly suited to mixed platters where colour and variety can help create a more memorable dish.
Try them pan-fried with chilli crisp, steamed with sesame-soy dipping sauce, added to a mushroom broth, or served alongside other dumpling flavours as a sharing plate.
From 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, Hakka Prawn Dumplings, Vegetarian Dumplings and Mushroom Dumplings are also included in the InSeason Rewards Program, available in 6 x 1kg cartons.
For operators already looking to refresh their dumpling offering, it’s another reason to explore different flavours and applications across the menu.
