The secret to serving a perfect fries experience

When it comes to ordering fries for your business, value and supporting Aussie communities matter, just as much as crunch and flavour.

In food service and hospitality, a satisfying customer experience leads to loyalty and repeat business. However this has to balance with what’s best for your business; are you getting the best value per order? Are you buying from a responsible supplier?

McCain has done extensive research into how best to provide value to the businesses it stocks with its fresh, high-quality local fries - honing in on the three key areas to take notice of, when choosing a fries supplier.

Not all fries are created equal

When you ask consumers what they look for in a fry, the answer 97% of the time is “crispiness.”*

To deliver that perfect fry with a fluffy potato interior and crisp outside, McCain sources the best quality potatoes with optimal shape and size to ensure the fries arrives hot and maintains their golden colour.

This is backed by market research*, which shows that operators who offer a premium fry, made from premium potatoes, achieve a highly satisfied consumer, which in turn increases loyalty and enables their business to prosper.

Good value for great fries

While experience is key to repeat customers, McCain also established two factors in the way a supplier processes fries, which are key to a business’ bottom line: length and solids content.

McCain have careful grading processes to ensure the length and quality of each fry are high in solids but low in water to maximise yield. Longer fries not only create a more appetising product, they also ensure better plate coverage. This allows for more portions per kilogram.

Higher internal solids in McCain’s quality potatoes lose less water during their preparation, resulting in a higher yield for maximising profits. And those savings add up. Where a carton of cheaper chips might allow around 54 serves, McCain allows around 60. Across 1000 cartons annually, that adds up to $16,000 AUD of extra profit*.

Serving up and giving back

Value and quality mean a lot, but McCain also knows businesses care about sourcing produce from suppliers that support their communities too.

McCain sees Australian communities as a key part of its ecosystem, and aims to give back through a range of charity and sustainability initiatives, including over 600,000 meals donated to hunger relief through FoodBank, and donating $100, 000 per annum to the Starlight Foundation to support families going through challenging times.

As part of McCain’s Sustainability Strategy, we have committed to several key sustainability goals; from supporting sustainable practices and operations that are energy and CO2 efficient, to being known for naturally nutritional and delicious planet-friendly food.
