Why McCain

We believe that good ethics is good business. These principles guide who we are, what we do, and how we achieve it. The result? Consistently good food, simply made.

We’re committed to quality from the very start of the supply chain. McCain has been operating in Australia for over 50 years working together with over 110 growers – some of which have supplied McCain for three generations. As the largest purchaser of Australian potatoes for processing, we pride ourselves on our strong relationship with Australian agriculture.

As a leading supplier of quality produce to the restaurant sector, and as supporters of Australian farming; it’s our aim to help operators understand how quality and provenance can keep customers coming back for more.

The quality and sourcing of ingredients has always been an integral consideration for consumers when choosing where to visit, but a McCain commissioned independent research shows 77.9% of consumers would feel more confident eating out at a restaurant that shares information on the source of its ingredients.

Consumers firmly believe that “Australian produce” supports farmers, growers, and the Australian economy. Consumers also have greater trust in Australian produce and perceive it to be fresher and better in quality, with 83.7% of consumers saying they would be more inclined to eat at their local restaurants and pubs, knowing that they source local ingredients thus supporting local farmers and the economy.

 Together Let’s Work Towards Sustainability

At McCain, we are committed to our strategy to be good, do good as we work towards reducing our environmental footprint and driving new models of sustainable farming. As a responsible business, we aim to grow while reducing environmental impact over the coming years.

  • Solar Installation in Ballarat - In 2020, we completed our Stage 1 of our Solar installation in Ballarat, with the aim of renewable electricity in all our plants by 2030.
  • Reducing CO2 Emissions - We are working towards 50% reduction in CO2 emissions and ceasing the use of coal by 2030.
  • Zero Waste - We are striving towards 100% potato utilisation in all our plants and zero waste to landfill by 2025.
  • Sustainable Packaging - We are committed to reaching 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025.

Together Let’s Support Our Communities

Over the years, we’ve contributed to causes that help our people and our communities thrive and flourish by actively supporting local welfare initiatives. McCain is committed to ‘giving back’ to communities and building a great future together because we’re passionate about local.

 Together Let’s Support Business

McCain purchased its first factory in 1971 and has been celebrating local produce ever since. Our plants employ over 700 locals and over 250 people work at our offices across the country. Today we have a strong network of factories in Australia across Ballarat and Smithton.

A legacy created over 50 years in Australia; we are all about celebrating local people and work with a talented workforce to help operators serve quality produce they can be proud to serve.
